Welcome to the Urban Heaven Blog. So what recording artists did you listen to growing up? Who do you listen to now?
I listened to the likes of biggie, 2pac, snoop, dre, wu tang just to name a few. Now my music interests are more varied so I listen to anything artist who I consider to make good music.
At what point in your career did you know you were ready to start taking music seriously and start releasing music?
It was back in 2010 when I had my first release. For me it was round about that point when I’d say it was official and started taking music seriously. everything before that period was leading up to that release.
So artists sit down with a concept for a song and then write lyrics, or maybe come up with a sample and then make the song. What’s your process like when you make and create music?
Process of making music depends on the beat. Usually I listen to the beat and then come up with the title or song name and then start writing around the song name. Most of the time I write the hook first before the verses, just my own way of doing things I suppose.
What’s the main driving force behind you and your music?
Main driving force will have to be GOD. I believe things happen for a reason and everything will fit into place for me eventually. So the fact I’m here doing this interview and making good music that people love to listen to did not happen by chance. So the big man upstairs is the force behind me. Also my passion and determination comes from this and that helps when you have to motivate yourself to achieve things.
What really inspires you to make music?
Firstly I would say the beat. The beat has to motivate me to write to it. No point in me writing to a beat I’m not feeling. That will be writing for writing sake. I listen to the beat and let the beat talk to me and inspire me to write and make good music.
What’s your current status? Are you still in search of a record deal or distribution, or do you have people handling that for you?
My current status is searching for distribution. I have the material ready now so the coming months will be to wrap up the material and then try to secure distribution for the material. If a record deal comes along then it does but if it don’t I still have the platform from which I can secure distribution. If anyone out there likes my material and want to get in touch to discuss business then feel free to get in touch on iamscrilla.com
I must say we heard your latest release and we really like what you do. How long did it take to make and tell about who else was involved in helping you create it?
My latest release is Beautiful Goodbye and I’m glad you took time to listen to it and appreciate the song for what it is. The song took some time to make; I was in the studio with RockSolidMedia who is one of the finest producers in Florida. I was introduced to him through a friend who works at Abbey Road Studios. Before he came along I recorded the lyrics to another beat and when he heard it he said we should go in the studio work on it more. Then he came up with the new beat and the rest was history. By the time I got the vocalist in, my verses were done. I had a vocal coach in the studio to work with Tina Crowe (Singer) so as to get the best of her voice. Her session took most part of the day but we had some awesome takes by the end of it. The track was mixed and mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London and that’s how we made history.
Are you going to be doing any tours or shows to promote the latest release?
Right now I’m concentrating on getting the release to as many press agents as possible. I might do a few select shows here and there. If you guys need me just holla and I will be there as you guys show me luv so it’s only right.
Apart from us, who else is supporting what you are doing?
I have agents supporting, I have the video on websites and different blogs as much as I can find. Have a few sites in the states waiting to upload the video as soon as my vevo channel is sorted out. I have a press agent over there that is looking after my business. Over here we have yourselves, park street, channel aka just to name a few sites supporting.
Most artists have a fanbase close to home but to many the trick is getting known outside your local area. To your knowledge have you anybody from other cities or countries like your music?
The stats on my fan page and YouTube suggest that I have fans from all over Europe as well as in the states. The trick is now to build upon that. It’s amazing how people get access to my music. Sometimes I don’t know how they find me but I glad they did.
What artists dead or alive would you most like to work with?
There are so many artists who I’d like to work with. But for me if I have to name two will have to be Ludacris and then Eryka Badu/Gill Scott I like ludacris because of his delivery and tha two vocalist because of substance.
We have readers from all over the world and its amazing how big urban music is now. If you could visit any city in the world, which one would it be and why?
A friend of mine once said if you go to Miami you will never want to come back. So I will like to go and see if that’s true…hahah
Anything you would like to add to anything you want to say to the fans of your music who are maybe reading this interview?
Just to say thanks for the love they show me. I appreciate the support and keep on spreading the word.
